When To Take Kilimanjaro climb

The best time and month to climb Kilimanjaro tends to be January, February and September, when the weather is warm, the sky is visible and the risk of rain is minimal. June, July, and august are also favorable though its cold season/winter in Tanzania.

March, June, November or December are rainy seasons making it tougher to climb but with proper preparation one can summit to the top.

THE FULL MOON: Targeting the climb during the full moon period is an interesting choice, as during the nights the visibility improves and the moon dangling directly above makes for a spectacular moment when you’re standing on top of the roof of Africa.

Weather on Kilimanjaro climb

Standing in an elevation of 5,785 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is 60 km in width (Kilimanjaro is thick yo! that makes it sexy to climb.) and 100 km in length with its own beautiful zonal vegetation. Climatic conditions on Kilimanjaro varies with attitude, from a tropical climate to artic conditions at the summit.

The foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro enjoy summer annually, temperature ranges from 25 to 30C yearlong. At the top temperatures ranges from -10 to -25C. In general, every 200meters you climb temperature drops by 1C.

Kilimanjaro experiences two wet seasons, the long monsoon rains between March and May, and the short rainy season which starts in the middle of October to the end of December. Kilimanjaro base experiences 2000mm of rain compared to 100mm of rain at top(summit).

Itinerary

Day 1LONDROSSI GATE TO MTI MKUBWA CAMP

We depart Moshi to Londorossi Gate for Kilimanjaro climb , which takes about 3 hours, where you will complete entry formalities. Then drive to the Lemosho trailhead. Upon arrival at trailhead, we begin hiking through undisturbed forest which winds to the first camp site called mtimkubwa (big tree camp) there you will have boiled washing water and save dinner. and wait for some hours and continue with our Kilimanjaro climb

Day 2LEMOSHO ROUTE (MTI MKUBWA TO SHIRA 1 CAMP)

We continue the Kilimanjaro climb trail leading out of the rain forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 Camp. Here we catch our first glimpse of Kibo across the plateau and there we will have lunch and dinner. here we rest and wait for another day for our Kilimanjaro climb

Day 3LEMOSHO ROUTE (SHIRA 1 TO SHIRA 11 CAMP)

Shira 1 camp – for hikers who Take Kilimanjaro climb 7 days they will skip this camp to shira 11 camp but they will have lunch to this before continue to shira 11 camp
We explore the Shira Plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east on moorland meadow towards Shira11 Camp. Then we divert from the main trail to Moir Hut, a little used site on the base of Lent Hills. A variety of walks are available on Lent Hills making this an excellent acclimatization opportunity. ShiraPlateau is one of the highest plateaus on earth. Kilimanjaro climb is not so simple

Day 4LEMOSHO ROUTE (SHIRA 11 TO BARANCO CAMP)

We begin the day Kilimanjaro climb up a ridge and then head southeast towards the Lava Tower – a 300 ft tall volcanic rock formation there you will have hot lunch. We descend to Barranco Camp through the strange but beautiful Senecio Forest to an altitude of 13,000 ft. Although the Kilimanjaro climb you begin and end the day at the same elevation, the time spent at higher altitude is very beneficial for acclimatization.

Day 5 LEMOSHO ROUTE (BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP)

We begin the day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall. Then we take Kilimanjaro climb the non -technical but steep, nearly 900 ft cliff. From the top of the Barranco Wall we cross a series of hills and valleys until we descend sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb up leads us to KarangaCamp. This is a shorter day meant for acclimatization, there you will have lunch and dinner. we wait for another day and continue our Kilimanjaro climb

Day 6 LEMOSHO ROUTE (KARANGA TO BARAFU CAMP)

We leave Karangacamp and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the rocky section to Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp, rest, and enjoy an early dinner to prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are viewable from this position.

Day 7LEMOSHO ROUTE (BARAFU TO UHURU PEAK) SUMMIT DAY

Elevation: 15,331 ft to 19,341 ft
Distance: 5 km/3 miles
Hiking Time: 7 -8 hours
Habitat: Arctic
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. The wind and cold at this elevation and time of day can be extreme. We ascend in the darkness for several hours while taking frequent, but short, breaks. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak- the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa LEMOSHO ROUTE UHURU PEAK TO MWEKA CAMP Elevation: 19,341 ft to 10,065 ft
Distance: 12 km/7 miles
Hiking Time: 4 -6 hours
Habitat: Rain Forest
From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. The trail is very rocky and can be quite hard on the knees; trekking poles are helpful. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. Later in the evening, we enjoy our last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep loudly.

Day 8 LEMOSHO ROUTE (MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE)

Following breakfast early morning and there you will enjoy cerebration of African songs and there you will tipping your crew for everyone having his envelops, then pictures and shack hands for your crew We continue the descent to Mweka Gate and collect the summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. From the gate, we continue another hour to Mweka Village. A vehicle will meet us at Mweka Village to drive us back to the hotel in Moshi.
